Given the immensity of the Salamanca Cathedral, which with two cathedrals is one of the largest in Europe, and also taking into account the large number of activities that are held here each year, an equally large number of financial resources must be expended to support the institution and maintain the building itself.

More specifically, the Cathedral usually bears the full cost of the many liturgical services which are held within the sphere of the Cathedral, the Diocese, and also the cost of other services held by the Church which are requested by outside institutions and individuals.

Another large part of the Cathedral’s income is devoted to the preservation, restoration, upkeep and maintenance of the Cathedrals as well as to the promotion of their heritage. Part of this income is also allotted to the day-to-day operations of the building, the Museum, and other Cathedral-based services such as the Archive and the Library. As a part of these operations, a calendar, daily timetables, a list of Cathedral personnel (both general administrative and specialized personnel) and information about the various Cathedral resources are posted and made available to the public. The Cathedral offers public access to all of its services. Another major budgetary allotment goes to pay the salaries of those who work for the Cathedral.

The Cathedral´s main source of income comes from the sale of admission tickets to the Old Cathedral, while admission to the New Cathedral is free. This income allows the Salamanca Cathedral to continue to offer and develop promotional programs like those mentioned above.
